Overview
An offbeat five night trip to Gurez, the valley beyond Razdan Pass on the Kishanganga river, with a Srinagar night at each end. Simple stays, a long mountain road, and a lot of quiet.
D2 Holidays Kashmir Tour and Travels is a J&K Tourism approved agency on Boulevard Road, Ghat No. 7. We shape this package around your dates, hotel category and who is travelling.
Is Gurez right for your family?
Gurez is for people who want quiet more than sightseeing. There are no gondolas or shopping streets. You get a green river valley, log houses and mountains close to the Line of Control, and a slower pace than anywhere on the usual Kashmir circuit. The people here are Dard-Shin and speak Shina, which gives the valley a feel of its own.
The road is long and winding, and stays are simple guesthouses, homestays and tourism huts rather than resort hotels. Power cuts happen and mobile signal is patchy. Older children usually love it. For toddlers, or anyone who gets badly carsick, the classic 5 nights 6 days Kashmir package is kinder.
When the road is open
Razdan Pass is closed by snow for a large part of the year. It usually opens in late spring and shuts again when the heavy snow arrives, but the dates shift every year. June to September is the dependable window, and early autumn brings golden fields. We check the road before you travel and tell you if it is shut rather than send you towards a closed pass.
ID, vehicle and budget notes
Carry original government photo ID for every adult. There are army check posts on the route.
Foreign passport holders should ask us before planning Gurez, because rules near the Line of Control are stricter and can change.
An Innova or a similar SUV is more comfortable than a sedan on the pass road.
Gurez is easy on the wallet once you are there. Most of the cost is the stay and the vehicle, and there are few paid activities.
Eating places on the pass road are few. Carry snacks and water for Day 2.
Itinerary
Airport pickup and a relaxed first evening. Keep your original photo ID in your day bag, because it is checked on the way to Gurez. Overnight in Srinagar.
An early start through Bandipora, with views of Wular Lake, then the climb to Razdan Pass at about 3,300 metres and the long descent to Dawar. Plan on most of the day for roughly 125 km of mountain road. Overnight in Gurez.
An easy day around Dawar: the Kishanganga riverbank, the pyramid-shaped Habba Khatoon peak, and the wooden village houses. Evenings are cold even in summer. Overnight in Gurez.
A drive up the Tulail valley, going as far as the road and the daylight allow. Small villages, wide meadows and very few other visitors. Overnight in Gurez.
Back over Razdan Pass to Srinagar. The afternoon in the city is free if you arrive early enough. Overnight in Srinagar.
Breakfast and the airport drop.

FAQs
Roughly 125 km, but it is a mountain road over Razdan Pass. Plan on most of a day with stops.
Around Dawar there is some signal, but it is weak and drops often. Tell family at home that you may be out of touch for a while.
It can be done, but most of that time goes on the road. This plan gives you three nights in the valley so you actually see it.
June to September, when the pass is reliably open. Early autumn is lovely but closer to the first snow.
